The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has unveiled the 16-member Indian squad set to take on Bangladesh in a thrilling five-match T20 series commencing on April 28. Leading the charge will be the formidable Harmanpreet Kaur, supported by the dynamic Smriti Mandhana as her deputy. Among the notable inclusions are three shining stars from the 2024 Women’s Premier League (WPL), adding a fresh spark to the team’s lineup. Notably, the uncapped talents, S Asha and S Sajana, have earned their maiden call-ups, showcasing their remarkable performances in the WPL.

Asha’s exceptional display, including a remarkable five-wicket haul against the UP Warriorz, has positioned her as one of the top wicket-takers of the tournament, further solidifying her selection. Sajana, on the other hand, has garnered attention with her powerful batting prowess, leaving spectators in awe of her hitting abilities. Asha’s reaction to her call-up, symbolized by a poster from the film ‘Jersey,’ resonates with the theme of resilience and determination, reflecting her unwavering commitment to representing the national team despite facing age-related challenges.

Additionally, the return of Yastika Bhatia and Radha Yadav adds depth to the T20 squad, emphasizing the team’s balanced composition. However, amidst the excitement of new inclusions, notable omissions such as Shikha Pandey, despite her stellar performances, raise eyebrows, alongside the absence of Jemimah Rodrigues due to injury.

With a busy summer ahead, including engagements in Bangladesh and the Asia Cup, followed by participation in the Hundred, the Indian team is gearing up for the ultimate challenge – the T20 World Cup in Bangladesh later this year. Led by stalwarts like Harmanpreet Kaur and Smriti Mandhana, supported by emerging talents like Asha and Sajana, the Indian squad is poised to conquer new heights on the international stage.

India’s squad for the Bangladesh women’s tour boasts a formidable lineup, featuring Harmanpreet Kaur (C), Smriti Mandhana (VC), Shafali Verma, Dayalan Hemalatha, Sajana Sajeevan, Richa Ghosh (wk), Yastika Bhatia (wk), Radha Yadav, Deepti Sharma, Pooja Vastrakar, Amanjot Kaur, Shreyanka Patil, Saika Ishaque, Asha Sobhana, Renuka Singh Thakur, and Titas Sadhu.
