Indian cricketer Jemimah Rodrigues will miss the upcoming tour of Bangladesh due to a back niggle, according to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The five-match T20I series is scheduled for later this month.
Rodrigues is a key player for India, and her absence will be a blow to the team’s chances. She is a talented young batsman who has been in good form recently. However, the BCCI has decided to rest her in order to keep her fresh for the upcoming ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, which will be held in Bangladesh later this year.
“Jemimah Rodrigues is suffering from a back niggle and has been rested from the Bangladesh tour keeping in mind the upcoming T20 World Cup,” the BCCI said in a statement.
The Bangladesh tour is a vital preparation ground for the World Cup, but the BCCI has decided that Rodrigues’ long-term fitness is more important. She is expected to be fit for the World Cup, and her return will be a boost to the Indian team.
This is the second time in recent months that Rodrigues has missed out on a tour due to injury. She was also ruled out of the tour of Australia in January. However, she is a young and talented player, and she is sure to bounce back from this latest setback.
India’s squad for the Bangladesh women’s tour boasts a formidable lineup, featuring Harmanpreet Kaur (C), Smriti Mandhana (VC), Shafali Verma, Dayalan Hemalatha, Sajana Sajeevan, Richa Ghosh (wk), Yastika Bhatia (wk), Radha Yadav, Deepti Sharma, Pooja Vastrakar, Amanjot Kaur, Shreyanka Patil, Saika Ishaque, Asha Sobhana, Renuka Singh Thakur, and Titas Sadhu.
Harmanpreet Kaur will continue to lead the side with Smriti Mandhana being her deputy while Shreyanka Patil, Saika Ishaque and Amanjot Kaur, all have been able to retain their places. It will be a busy summer for the Indian team given they play a series in Bangladesh and will feature in the Asia Cup in June-July.
