Introduction

In an effort to foster gender equality and empower female cricketers in Pune, the Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) has announced the inaugural Women’s Maharashtra Premier League (WMPL). This groundbreaking initiative aims to provide a platform for talented women cricketers to showcase their skills, gain exposure, and pursue their passion for the sport.

Rohit Pawar , President MCA launches the Women’s Maharashtra Premier League (WMPL) for the Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) at J. W. Marriot. After the success of the MPL 2023, the MCA, the governing body for cricket in Maharashtra announced the much awaited Women’s Maharashtra Premier League (WMPL) Sunday, 7th April. MCA will be the first association from the BCCI to start a state league for women; a milestone in promoting Women’s cricket. Open auction for WMPL teams with 3 crores as base price for 3 years as per MPL, so no discrimination between men and women teams. Highest paid team will get priority to select the icon player of choice. A total purse prize of rupees 20 Lakhs awaits the winning team of WMPL 2024, with rupees 10 lakhs for the runners-up rewarding their outstanding performances.

The player auction for WMPL will take place on May 11, 2024

The tournament would feature 4 teams and each team can have only ONE icon player.

Each team will play 6 matches in a round-robin league. The top two will play the final.

#WMPL will be streamed live on Jio Cinema and Sports 18.
